On 15th September, 2022 at around 0500 hrs, troops of Border Out Post Laxmipur, 107 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier, thwarted smuggling attempts and seized 19.5 kgs of Silver Jewellery. The estimated value of the seized silver is 10,72,500/- rupees.
Acting on reliable information received, the jawans noticed suspicious activities of some smugglers on the Border. Seeing the troops coming towards them, the smugglers fled from there taking the advantage of dense grass and trees. After that the troops conducted a thorough search of the area. During the search, a bag was found which was wrapped in black plastic. When the bag was opened, silver ornaments were found in it. Whom the smugglers were trying to take from India to Bangladesh.
The seized silver jewelery has been handed over to the Custom Office, Baghdah for further legal action.
The officiating Commanding Officer of the 107 Battalion stated that the Border Security Force is taking strict measures to prevent smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh Border. Due to which people involved in activities like smuggling are experiencing a lot of difficulties and some of them are getting apprehended, who are also being punished according to the law.
