On 22nd September, 2022, at around 0830 hrs, troops of Border Out Post Tarali, 112 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier, foiled smuggling attempts and apprehended a smuggler with 5.036 kg of silver ornaments. The estimated value of the seized silver is 2,22,087/- rupees.
The jawans acted on reliable information. When the troops on duty saw a suspicious cyclist coming towards them who was coming from village Nityananda Kathi and going towards village Tarali. When the troops stopped and searched him, 16 packets of silver jewelery were found wrapped in white polythene from the tires of his cycle. The apprehended smuggler was identified as Babu Sarkar, District North 24 Parganas.
During interrogation, the smuggler revealed that he is regularly indulged in such smuggling and has been doing this work for a long time. He further revealed that he had taken these ornaments from an unknown person in the Bithari market. After that, after crossing the border, these ornaments were to be handed back to the same person.
The apprehended smugglers and the seized jewelery have been handed over to Custom Office Tentulia for further legal action.
The Commanding Officer of 112 Battalion stated that the Border Security Force is taking strict measures to prevent smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Due to which people indulged in activities like smuggling are facing a lot of difficulties and some of them are getting apprehended, who are also being punished according to the law.
