POLICE COMMEMORATION DAY’ WAS ORGANISED AT PREMISES OF FRONTIER HEADQUARTERS SOUTH BENGAL, BSF

On 21st October’ 2022 at 0800 hrs ‘Police Commemoration Day’ was organized at premises of Frontier Headquarters South Bengal. On 21st October’ 1959, Shri Karam Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police of the Central Reserve Police Force, along with 20 troops, was on patrolling in the hills of Ladakh near the Indo-China Border. At the same time, the Indian patrol party was attacked by the Chinese army from a high hill at a place called ‘Hot Spring’ in which 10 Indian troops were martyred while fighting bravely and the remaining troops were taken captive.

In the honor of those martyred troops, every year on 21st October, all the police forces of the country celebrate this day as Martyr’s Day. To pay tribute to the troops who sacrificed their lives fighting valiantly for the country throughout the year, all the police forces of the country remember their brave troops by organizing parades and take an oath to perform their duty faithfully.

A total of 264 martyrs including 27 martyrs of Border Security Force and 237 martyrs of Central Police Forces and Police of different states have been martyred this year. In this sequence, Dr. Atul Fuljhele, IPS, Inspector General, South Bengal Frontier today presented the martyrs of Border Security Force along with the martyrs of various forces in front of senior officers and jawans of the force in the premises of Frontier Headquarters South Bengal. He remembered them by calling their name and praised their sacrifice and bravery. After this, along with all the personnel of the force, he bowed his head in memory of the martyrs and observed a silence of two minutes.
