On 07th November’ 2022, troops of Border Out Post Hakimpur, 112 Battalion, under South Bengal Frontier, thwarted smuggling attempts and apprehended a smuggler with 4.850 kg of silver jewellery. The estimated value of the seized silver is 2,11,615/- rupees.
The jawans on duty observed a suspicious cyclist coming from village Swarupada and going towards village Tarali. When the jawans stopped and searched him, 18 packets of silver jewelery which were wrapped in transparent polythene came out from both the tyres of his cycle. The apprehended smuggler was identified as Khalil Ghazi, District North 24 Parganas.
During interrogation, the smuggler revealed that he regularly indulged in such smuggling. He further revealed that in Hakimpur an unknown person had given a cycle including these ornaments. After this, after crossing the BSF check post, the cycle was to be parked at the place indicated by the unknown person. Further, from there an unknown person was going to receive this cycle. But the troops already took him into their custody.
The apprehended smugglers and the seized jewelery were handed over to Custom Office Tentulia for further legal action.
The Commanding Officer of 112 Battalion stated that the Border Security Force is taking strict measures to prevent smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh Border. Due to which people indulged in activities like smuggling are experiencing a lot of difficulties and some of them are getting apprehended, who are also being punished according to the law.
