Mizoram: Deputy Chief Minister Pu Tawnluia inaugurates competition and exhibition in Aizawl

Deputy Chief Minister Pu Tawnluia inaugurated ‘PUM 2022” an innovation competition and exhibition at the Government Industrial Training Institute Complex, Aizawl on Wednesday.

The three day innovation fair organized by the Labour Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Department aims at bolstering innovative ideas and craftsmanship under the theme “Youth Skills for a better tomorrow”.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Chief Minister Pu Tawnluia said that the Government of Mizoram, in line with the Central Government, recognizes that skill development is the key to development and therefore, the State Government is working towards developing the innovative ideas, skills and craftsmanship of the youth.

Highlighting the various schemes and measures taken up by the government, the Deputy Chief Minister reiterated that skill development is one of the key focus under the state’s own flagship programme – SEDP. While the values of traditional education taught in schools and colleges should not be undermined, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the modern world is focusing towards skill development. He emphasized that skill development and vocational education is an important factor in breaching the gap between education and the high level of unemployment which exists today.

Pu Lalchhandama Ralte, Minister of LESDE, who graced the function as Guest of Honour also welcomed and congratulated all the trainees of ITI, craftsmen and entrepreneurs who came from across the state to participate in the three day event. Highlighting initiatives taken by the Government in developing the innovative skills of the youth of Mizoram, he focused on steps taken by the State Government in establishing government run Industrial Training Institutes. Besides the government owned ITI in Aizawl, Lunglei and Siaha Districts; four more is scheduled to be established in four districts viz. Champhai, Serchhip, Kolasib and Champhai, he said.

The 3-day Innovation Fair will showcase various products and items made by the trainees and alumni of the Govt. ITI as well as private craftsmen and entrepreneurs from different districts of Mizoram. The Fair will include competitions under two major categories – Engineering and Non-Engineering, which will be adjudicated by five judges in each category. There are 25 participants under the Engineering group and 39 under the Non-Engineering Groups. Top three winners in both categories will be announced on the closing day which is scheduled to be held on 11th November.
