Central Bureau of Communication, Guwahati Celebrates the Sacrifices of Unsung Heroes of Freedom Struggle

To commemorate the 75 years of India’s independence and also to mark the celebration of 400th birth anniversary of Assam’s legendary war hero Lachit Borphukan, Central Bureau of Communication(CBC), Regional office, Guwahati organises a two-day Photo exhibition cum outreach programme at Kamala Kanta Natya Samaj, Biswanath Ghat Road, Biswanath Chariali from today. The two-day exhibition organised on the theme of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav features around 50 creatives and showcases the  contribution of the freedom fighters . This Exhibition is organised with an aim to portray the freedom fighters and their struggle in making India independent sacrificing their lives. The contribution of the great warrior of Ahom Dynasty Bir Lachit Borphukan is also highlighted in the exhibition.

While delivering his speech at the ianugural programme of the exhibition Shri Chintamoni Sarma, Prinicipal, Biswanath College said that the celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to pay tribute to the martyrs is helping to aware the masses about the contribution of the freedom fighters . Talking about contribution of Lachit Borphukan, he said that Lachit Borphukan is known for his leadership in the battle of Saraighat and it is the duty of the new generation to gather more knowledge about him. He appreciated the effort of Central Bureau of Communication for organising the exhibition to create public awareness about the freedom fighters and Bir Lachit Borphukan.

Another speaker Shri Paresh Borkotoky, Vice Chairman, Assam Livestock and Poultry Corporation said that Bir Lachit Borphukan is widely remembered as the torchbearer of valour, courage and the upholder of the culture of Assam. He urged the new generation to gather more knowledge about the legendary warrior and to take inspiration from his ideals of equality and dignity for all..

Smt Barnali Mahanta, Field Publicity Officer, CBC, Guwahati spoke about the aim and significance of the programme in her welcome address.

Shri Ranjit Kalita, Chairman, Biswanath Anchalik Panchayat, Shri Dipak Saikia, Biswanath Municipal Corporation, Smt Labanya Hazarika, Retired Vice Principal, Chariali Boys H.S School, Smt Ranju Porajuli, President, Gorehagi Gaon Panchayat were also present in the occasion.

The exhibition also showcases the various initiatives and schemes of government in the last 8 years. Various competitions including quiz among students were also held in today’s programme.

Private Registered Troupe of CBC, Guwahati performed a street play on Bir Lachit Borphukan on the occasion. The exhibition will remain open for public till 25th November, 2022.
