IIT Madras Students record about 10% higher total offers at the End of Session 1.1 of Placements’ Day One

Indian Institute of Technology ( IIT Madras ) students recorded a total number of 445 offers at the end of Session 1.1 in Day One (1st December 2022) of Phase 1 of placements for 2022-23 Academic Year.

This figure, which includes Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs), is the highest ever recorded in IIT Madras Placements History at the end of Session 1.1. It is around 10% higher than last year’s figure of 407.

Many companies that were earlier recruiting only in Phase I of placements, have this year opted to give PPOs also, which are the result of a robust internship program at IIT Madras.

 

 

A total of 25 offers with pay packages in excess of Rs. 1 crore per annum has been received at the end of Session 1.1. A total of 15 International Offers were received from Four Companies at the end of Session 1.1.

A total of 1,722 students have registered for placements in the 2022-23 Academic Year, across different streams of study. The total number of companies that have registered for Phase I Placements is 331. They will be recruiting for a total of 722 profiles.

Wishing the students success in placements, Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, said, “Placement is the most important festival of IIT Madras. There are great expectations from both parents and students. I am sure the students are very excited. We have got some of the major companies who have come for the placements. I am sure this year it will be rewarding both for the recruiters and for the students. In addition, IIT Madras recorded the highest number of Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) this year, which is a pointer that the current placement will also be very successful.”

The main recruiters of this year include Microsoft, Graviton, Flipkart, Texas Instruments, Bajaj Auto, Bain and Company, Goldman Sachs, Qualcomm, Boston Consulting Group, JP Morgan Chase & Co, P&G, Optiver, Morgan Stanley, and McKinsey.

The public sector companies that are recruiting during Phase I include ONGC and Centre for Development of Telematics (CDoT). The Phase I of Placements is expected to continue till 7th December 2022.

Commenting on this year’s Placements, Prof. Sathyan Subbiah, Advisor (Placement), IIT Madras, said, “Our students have done well in the interviews and I am happy see them bag attractive placement offers. Earlier, IITM students have already done well in their internships and have attracted many PPOs this year. It is great to see the confidence that companies are placing in IIT Madras trained students, even during the relatively challenging economic times.”

Ø  Morgan Stanley – 6 offers

Ø  Graviton – 6 offers

Ø  McKinsey & Company – 5 offers

Ø  Cohesity – 5 offers

Elaborating on the arrangements for Campus Placements, Mr. T.B. Ramkamal, Student Academic Affairs Secretary, IIT Madras, said, “The return to an in-person mode of placements was well received by both students as well as our valuable recruiters. We hope the new hybrid arrangement will enhance the quality of student-employer interaction and result in higher placements.”

Sharing his experience on the placement, Mr. Akshith E from Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Madras, who secured an Rs. 1 Crore-Plus international offer for a Software Engineering role in a multinational technology firm, said, “I am delighted to receive this dream offer. A huge thanks to the placement team and the institute for their support during both the preparation and interview process.”

Sharing her experience on placements, Ms. Sanjanaa G V from Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Madras, who got placed as a Software Engineer in a multinational technology firm, said, “I am very elated to have got this offer on Day 1 of campus placements. I am grateful to the placement team who were present through every step of this process. I was able to achieve my dream goal with their constant support.”

Speaking about the placements, Mr. Sanchit Gupta from Department of Computer Science and Engineering, who received an Rs. 1 crore-Plus domestic offer for as a Software Developer in an high-frequency trading company, said, “The streamlined placement process managed by the placement team helped me focus on giving the interviews calmly rather than worrying about logistics. I am happy to have this dream opportunity and thank my professors and the parents, because of whom I could clear the interviews.”
