BSF Meghalaya celebrates 58th BSF Raising Day

The sentinels of the border are celebrating ’58th Raising day’ of Border Security Force on Thursday. BSF was raised on 01 Dec 1965 by Padma Vibhushan Sh. K F Rustam Ji, IPS, after the Indo-Pak war when the need for specialized and specific force to guard the borders was felt.

Border Security Force guard 2725 Km on Western Frontier and 4096 Km on Eastern Frontier of India. In addition, it takes pleasure of serving the nation on line of control, counter insurgency, anti-naxal operations etc.

Initiating with 25 battalions, BSF has now reached its number of battalions to 193. The force has grown not only in volumes but also in its capabilities as one can see Air wing, Water wing, Artillery bolstering the Force in all the facets of national security.

On this auspicious occasion, Sh. Inderjit Singh Rana, IG BSF Meghalaya stated that BSF Meghalaya Frontier is strongly dominating the 444 Km stretch of International Border with Bangladesh and undertaking various confidence building measures and public outreach programmes to cement the relationship with border population of Meghalaya.

During this year, BSF Meghalaya Frontier seized smuggled goods of more than Rs 25 crore, which include cattle, drug & narcotics, gold and various other items. In addition to this, 123 miscreants were apprehended while violating the sanctity of IB comprising 61 Indians, 32 Bangladeshi and 30 Rohingyas. He said troops of BSF Meghalaya left no stone unturned to make the border safe and tranquil.
