It was 105 years ago in 1917 when Shri Shri SAMBHARGIRI BABA a renowned Hindu saint and a dedicated disciple of Maa Kali reached Haflong to set up his long mach of establishing temple of Maa Kali (abode of Maa Kali) in different places, starting from Myanmar, (present Burma) to Baradpur-Cachar, Dimapur-Nagaland and so on.
He reached Haflong from southern side and placed his trisul (three headed spear) in northern corner of the present Viswa Hindu Parishad.
Being not suitable for setting up a temple in that place according to the Vastu shastra, Lt.Pandit Rabilal Upahaya(s/o Lt.Maniram Upahaya) who will be better recognised as father of Lt.Pandit Somnath Upadhaya (Shastri) Panditji) along with other disciples from Dimasa, Bengali and other communities of Haflong were handed over with the responsibility to search a suitable place for setting up “BHADRAKALI MANDIR” and the present land was selected being facing east and the most suitable place according to Vastu for setting up KALIBARI, Since then KALIBARI came into existence where daily worship of KALPILESWAR MAHADEV & BHARADKALI MATA.
The temple of BHARADKALI later became famous as “Haflong Kalibari” which may be one of the beautiful tourist place in Assam.
