Moving away from the traditional way of marking student’s attendance in classrooms through roll calls, the Dibrugarh Hanumanbux Surajmal Kanoi (DHSK) College from Saturday introduced the digital attendance of students in classroom through online platform. Speaking about the newly introduced technology, DHSK College principal Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia said that the method has been implemented in line with the digital India initiative that will help in saving time for both students and teachers alike in clasrooms.
“I think we are the first college from the north eastern region if not from the country to adopt this digital attendance method in classrooms. It will save valuable time for the students and teachers. In some of our classes there are 200 to 250 students and roll calls use to take around 10 to 15 minutes. Now the entire process will take less than 5 seconds. A code will be generated through the LMS (learning management system) software and the students will be able to mark their presence through their mobile phone. It is efficient, hassle-free and time-saving. Though we faced lots of problems in introducing the digital attendance program, we are happy to finally to implement it,” college principal Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia said.
He further mentioned that DHSK College has been conducting online college body election since 2018, which was the first of its kind in the state.
“Since 2018 onwards we have been conducting the college election digitally. Right from nomination, voting to announcement of results, the entire process are being done online. Any student of the college can cast his vote in the election from any part of the world through an Android mobile phone. Our initiative has been quite successful and appreciated by everyone. We have already initiated the online paper-free admission system. Our next initiative is to digitalise the college entrance gate. A person will have to enter a special code which will be generated through one’s phone number to get access inside,” Dr. Saikia said.
