BSF JAWANS APPREHENDED WOMAN AND MONEY EXCHANGER ALONG WITH 7 LAKH BANGLADESHI TAKA ON INTERNATIONAL BORDER

On February 02, 2023, troops of Border Security Force under South Bengal Frontier apprehended a woman with 7,03,150/- Bangladeshi Taka by conducting a special operation on specific information. The apprehended woman was carrying Bangladeshi currency illegally through ICP Gojadanga to Bangladesh.

Troops of ICP Ghojadanga, 153 Battalion under Sector Kolkata, during a special operation in the said area, observed suspicious movement of a female. The woman was trying to move from Itinda towards ICP Ghojadanga with a heavy bag. Acting swiftly, the alert jawans apprehended the said woman. During search, 7,03,150 Bangladeshi Taka recovered from her possession. The apprehended woman is from District Hazaribagh, Jharkhand.

During preliminary interrogation, she revealed that, she came to India from Bangladesh with her parents during her childhood and settled here permanently. In the year 2007, her parents left her in India and returned to Bangladesh. After that she married to Manoj Shaw, a resident of Jharkhand. Today she came to ICP Gojadanga to go to Bangladesh with 06 lakh Indian currency for treatment of her father. After reaching here, she got exchanged Indian currency into Bangladeshi currency illegally from a money exchanger named Shahid Ghazi (Shabnam Enterprises). While she was trying to move towards the international Border, BSF troops apprehended her.

BSF jawans also took into custody to Shahid Ghazi, resident of Paniter, District North 24 Parganas, a money exchanger who was involved in the crime.

The apprehended woman and money exchanger along with the seized Bangladeshi taka have been handed over to Custom Office Gojadanga for further legal action.

Commanding Officer of 153 Battalion has expressed happiness over the achievement of BSF jawans. He stated that in order to stop smuggling, he has also sought cooperation from the police stations and other agencies to eliminate smuggling and to punish those involved in smuggling.
