A review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Cachar District Development Commissioner Rajiv Roy at the conference hall of DC’s office at Silchar on Tuesday to celebrate the upcoming “Maha Shiv Ratri” atop Bhuban hill and across Cachar district.
Devotees from all over the districts and Barak Valley flock to the holy Bhuvan Hill to pray and seek blessings from Lord Shiva.
It is pertinent to mention that “Bhuvan Mela” is organized every year in Cachar district. Bhuban Hills is in the Cachar district of Assam and it is famous for its hilltop Shiva temple, where lakhs of people from different parts of the state come to worship Lord Shiva during Maha Shivaratri. This hill is located about 50 km from Silchar town of Assam. It is a very significant pilgrimage site in Assam.
While reviewing the situation and the possibility of people’s gathering atop Bhuban hill, Bhuban hill festival committee chairman and resource person former joint secretary B C Nath requested the Cachar district administration to take strict measures for the upcoming festival on February 17 and 18 and make the festival incident-free and crime-free.
Nath also requested district administration to form a committee to monitor the activities of the festival at Bhuban hill and take special measures to control consuming of liquor during the festival, supply of drinking water, electricity system .
Chairman and resource person B C Nath urged district administration to take measures to prevent water wastage and not to use incense sticks and candles in the temple due to lack of water in the Shiva temple.
On the festival day. In this meeting it was informed that various organisations including Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Durga Bahini will co-operate for the overall arrangement.
Taking part in the discussion,additional superintendent of Police, Subrata Sen shared experiences of previous years and said that if devotees use separate routes for ascending and descending to the Shiva temple on the hill, it may be possible to reduce unwanted incidents and accidents.
DDC Rajiv Roy also laid stress on overall system and stated that there will be another meeting with the various departmental officials on February 10.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Dipak Jidung, Assistant Commissioner, interacted with local temple committee members and inquired about the implementation of measures.
