On 07 February 2023, at about 2140 hours, BSF jawans of Border Out Post Pakhiura, 08 Battalion, under Sector Krishnanagar tried to stop group of 6 to 7 smugglers coming from Bangladesh to India taking advantage of darkness and thick banana orchard in the border area of Nadia district. Smugglers attacked the jawans with sharp edged weapons(dah).
Sensing threat to life, in self-defence, maintaining restraint the BSF jawan fired non lethal ammo with Pump Action Gun. Smuggler fled away towards Bangladesh side taking advantage of extreme darkness. On through search of the area a dead body of a person found lying in mustard field approx 400m from international boundary well inside Indian Territory. Sharp edged weapons (dah) also recovered from the spot.
The person succumbled to injuries identified as Ariful Mandal alias Arye, S/o- Afzuddin Mandal, vill- Shamkur, dist- Jhenaidah, Bangladesh. He was found involved in smuggling activities on the border in past.
The dead body was handed over to police station Hanskhali for further action.
Public Relations Officer of South Bengal Frontier stated that BSF jawans are performing duty with alertness and utmost dedication. Further, he said that smugglers often make deadly attacks in groups on jawans performing duty at isolated points on border.
