On 17 Feb 2023, BSF troops under South Bengal Frontier foiled three separate smuggling attempts and seized 488 bottles of Phensedyl and 8 kg of Ganja on the Indo-Bangladesh border. The estimated value of the seized Phensedyl 1,00,191/-Rs.The smugglers were attempting to smuggle these illegal substances from India to Bangladesh.
In the first incident, on 17 Feb 2023, based on intelligence received, vigilant troops from Border Outpost Hakimpur, 112 Battalion, Sector Kolkata, conducted a search operation near the border village of Hakimpur and seized 395 bottles of Phensedyl at approximately 1225 hrs. These Phensedyl bottles were tied in four sacks and hidden in a pit underground.
Additionally, on the same day at approximately 0605 hrs, BSF troops from Border Outpost Tarali, 112 Battalion, observed some suspicious activity in a mustard field near the international boundary. When troops approached, they noticed a man with a bag (potla) attempting to move towards the international boundary while taking cover in the mustard field. Upon being challenged by BSF jawans, the smuggler panicked and escaped, taking advantage of the darkness and dense fog, leaving the bag behind. Upon thorough searching of the area, one plastic bag (potla) was recovered from the mustard field, containing 93 bottles of Phensedyl.
In another incident, on 17 Feb 2023, at approximately 0610 hrs, a special patrolling party from Border Outpost Khalsi, 153 Battalion, noticed some suspicious persons who escaped by taking cover in the fog and thick crops upon being challenged by BSF troops. After a thorough search of the area, two bags (potla) were found containing 8 kg of ganja.
The seized Phensedyl and Ganja have been handed over to the Custom Office in Tentulia.
These successful interceptions by the BSF demonstrate the force’s commitment to protecting the border and maintaining peace in the region.
