(District- Nadia)
In a commendable effort, the jawans of Border Out Post Betai, 84 Battalion under the South Bengal Frontier (BSF), rescued a rare species of bird from the clutches of smugglers on the international border. The smugglers were attempting to smuggle the birds from Bangladesh to India.
On 22nd February 2023, while on duty at the Border Out Post Betai, the jawans noticed suspicious activities of smugglers in their area of responsibility. The jawans observed smugglers from the Indian side carrying wooden boxes towards the border. Upon seeing the smugglers, the jawans immediately warned them, causing the smugglers to abandon the wooden boxes and flee into the darkness and bushes. Upon further inspection, the jawans found a wooden box containing 40 parrots of rare species.
The jawans promptly handed over the birds to officials of the Betudhari Forest Department.
The Commanding Officer of 84 Battalion expressed his satisfaction with the vigilance and alertness of the BSF jawans and their commitment to preventing cross-border crimes and smuggling. He added that the BSF will continue to work towards preserving the environment and protecting endangered species from such criminal activities.
