The All India Inter-University Baseball (Women) Tournament 2023, spread over four days, 24th to 28th February, 2023, came to a thundering end at Royal Global University, Guwahati.
On the final day of the tournament, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya bagged the fourth spot, while Savitribai Phule Pune university was the second runner up at the third spot. University of Calicut, that emerged as the winner of the tournament was closely followed by Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, post the final round of matches between University of Calicut vs. Savitribai Phule Pune University (8-1), Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya vs. Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam (7-18), Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya vs. Savitribai Phule Pune University (1-14).
At the closing ceremony that was graced by Prof. Usha Rai Negi as a guest, Prof. (Dr.) S.P. Singh highlighted the importance of women in sports calling participation of women in all aspects of life the need of the hour to resonate resilience, reliance and throw light on the historical glory of women in all fields. Acknowledging sports as being a crucial parameter in holistic development of students across generations, he asserted on the importance of physical fitness to one’s health and durability of living a healthy life.
The tournament along with its closing ceremony was also attended by students, staff, faculty and senior officers of the varsity along with the participating sportswomen from universities across the country.
