The jawans of Border Out Post Kadipur of 54 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier have rescued four Asian Small (Otters) creatures from the clutches of smugglers on the night of 19th March, 2023. The jawans launched a search operation in their area of responsibility on the basis of concrete information and observed that some smugglers were coming from Bangladesh towards the Indian border.

The jawans immediately challenged them, but the smugglers took advantage of the darkness and fled back to Bangladesh.

Upon reaching the spot, the jawans recovered iron cages in which four rare Asian Small (Otters) creatures were found. The animals were rescued from the clutches of smugglers and were handed over to the Forest Department, Ranaghat.

The Commanding Officer of 54 Battalion stated that the BSF is taking strict measures to stop the smuggling of rare species of birds and animals on the border. He also stated in clear words that they will not allow any kind of smuggling from their area under any circumstances.

The rescue of these rare creatures is an example of the commitment of the BSF towards the protection of wildlife and the environment.
