On 25th March 2023, vigilant BSF troops of ICP Petrapole, 145 Battalion, under South Bengal Frontier apprehended 02 Bangladeshi passengers along with clothes, cosmetics and electronic items which they were trying to smuggle to Bangladesh. The estimated value of the seized goods is Rs 4,00,620/-.
Acting on reliable information received, on 25 March 2023, at about 1245 hrs, BSF jawans on duty at Passenger Terminal ICP Petrapole observed 02 suspicious passengers moving from India to Bangladesh with heavy luggage. On being inquired about their belongings by the jawans on duty, they could not give satisfactory answers. Thereafter, both the passengers were apprehended by BSF jawans. The apprehended passengers were identified as Sheikh Mofizul Islam Babul, Distt- Dhaka and Md. Shaheen Ahmed, Distt- Chuadanga, Bangladesh.
During preliminary questioning, they revealed that they used to work as a carrier in greed of earning more money. They buy goods from Barabazar, Kolkata and supply those goods to the smugglers of Bangladesh illegally.
The apprehended passengrers along with seized items have been handed over to Custom office Petrapole.
Public Relations Officer of South Bengal Frontier stated that BSF personnel are guarding the borders 24×7 and are committed to stop all sorts of smuggling activities across the border. Due to which people involved in crimes like smuggling are being caught continuously.
