(District North 24 Parganas)
On April 12, 2023, jawans of Border Post Sutiya, 107 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier, acting on concrete information, conducted a special operation in village Garopota (Kamalapur). During the search operation, the jawans found a suspicious mini truck parked in the village at 10 PM. When the jawans thoroughly searched the truck, they found 30 packets of ganja hidden under watermelons. When the jawans asked the villagers gathered there about the owner of the truck, they did not give any reply. BSF had also informed the local police about the incident before the search operation. The jawans conducted a thorough investigation of the surrounding area and carried out the search operation until late at night. After this, the jawans, along with the Bangaon police, brought the mini truck to the border outpost Sutiya.
After bringing the truck to the border post, when it was searched further, the jawans found a separate cavity behind the mini truck, in which they recovered 52 more packets of ganja. Additionally, two Aadhaar cards were found in the truck’s cabin. One Aadhaar card had the name Sudeep Guha, village Chapaberia, district North 24 Parganas, and the other Aadhaar card had the name Shambhu Sarkar, village Harinathpur, police station Bagdah.
After the seizure of the ganja, the intelligence department of BSF received information that this ganja was to be smuggled from here to cross the border through different places. Apart from this, BSF jawans are also tracing the smugglers and truck drivers connected with this ganja consignment. The total weight of the 82 packets of ganja seized is 172 kg.
The seized ganja and mini truck have been handed over to Police Station Bangaon.
The spokesman of the South Bengal Frontier expressed satisfaction with the success of the jawans and appreciated them greatly. He stated that this is only a reflection of the vigilance displayed by the BSF jawans on duty. He has urged people not to adopt the route of smuggling under any circumstances. He also stated in strong words that BSF jawans will not allow smuggling or any other type of crime to take place on the border and will not spare those involved in it.
