The South Bengal Frontier of the Border Security Force (BSF) has seized 10 plastic bags of fish eggs worth Rs. 1,50,000/- and apprehended a smuggler on the Indo-Bangladesh border on April 14, 2023. Acting on concrete information, the alert troops of Border Out Post Madhupur and Ranghat, 68 Battalion, nabbed the smuggler red-handed while he was trying to smuggle the fish eggs from India to Bangladesh.
The jawans of Border Outpost Madhupur, 68 Battalion, heard a man’s voice in the banana plantation near the border at about 2320 hours. They immediately rushed to the spot and saw a smuggler trying to go towards the border with two packets. The troops immediately chased him and nabbed him there. The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Anarul Mandal, PS Bagdah.
During interrogation, Anarul Mandal revealed that he works as a laborer in Kerala and had come to the village 15 days ago. He further revealed that Ati Mandal, Sameem Mandal, and Noor Mohammad of his village lured him to earn easy money, and on their advice, he was going to cross the fish eggs to Bangladesh.
In another incident, troops of Border Outpost Ranghat, 68 Battalion seized 8 plastic bags of fish eggs from their area of ​​responsibility. The estimated value of seized fish eggs is Rs. 1,20,000/-.
The apprehended smugglers and seized items have been handed over to the concerned agencies for further legal action.
The Commanding Officer of 68 Battalion expressed satisfaction over the success of the jawans and stated that all possible routes of smuggling have been kept under strict vigil to foil the nefarious designs of smugglers. He also stated that BSF jawans will not allow smuggling or any other kind of crime on the border under any circumstances.
