The jawans of Betai, the border post of 84 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier BSF, rescued rare species of birds from the clutches of smugglers who were attempting to take them from India to Bangladesh.
On 16th April, at 0230 hours, troops of Border Outpost Betai, 84 Battalion, observed suspicious movement of a smuggler in their area of responsibility. The troops saw a smuggler carrying a wooden box and heading towards the border. The jawans immediately chased the smuggler, but he threw the box and escaped into the darkness and bushes. Upon searching the area, the jawans found a wooden box containing two birds of the rare species, Horned Curassow.
The BSF jawans handed over the seized birds to the forest officials of the Tehatta Forest Department.
The Commanding Officer of 84 Battalion expressed satisfaction over the vigilance of BSF jawans and stated that they are fully dedicated and determined to stop cross-border crimes and smuggling.
The rescue of these rare species of birds is a significant accomplishment for the BSF, as they continue to work tirelessly to prevent smuggling and illegal activities on the Indo-Bangladesh border. The BSF remains committed to protecting India’s wildlife and natural resources and will continue to take all necessary measures to stop any illegal activities in the area.
