Tezpur University inks MoU with Indian Army to offer Chinese language course

Tezpur University today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Headquarter 4 Corps, Tezpur (HQ 4 Corps signed the MoU on behalf of Indian Army) to offer army personnel a basic course in Chinese language.

The 16-week course, designed by the faculty of Department of Foreign Languages will offer Indian Army personnel deployed on the Indo-China border basic familiarity with Chinese for security purposes. The course is exclusively designed to cater to the needs of the Indian army personnel often engaged in Indo-China border areas. The course intends to develop army personnel in all four skills, viz. listening, speaking, reading and writing of intermediate level. Further, the course will teach military terminologies and application in Chinese language, give live interpretational experience, and help understand cultural/colloquial nuances of the Chinese languages.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University,  Shambhu Nath Singh said, “Tezpur University has always been committed to contributing to the nation’s development in various ways, and this is another step in that direction. We are confident that this course will be beneficial to the Indian army personnel in carrying out their duties in the border areas.”

Colonel S.K. Singh (Col GS, Edn), who signed the MoU on behalf of HQ 4 Corps appreciated the initiative of Tezpur University and hoped that the initiative is a step towards enhancing India’s defence preparedness and strengthening the bond between the armed forces and the academic community.

Speaking on the occasion, P.K.Das, Head, Department of Foreign Languages said that in the past Tezpur University has conducted similar courses for the Indian Army, but the current MoU envisages Tezpur University as not just a local or regional resource but also as a central or national resource.
