On April 19, 2023, BSF jawans under South Bengal Frontier seized 41 plastic bags filled with fish eggs in different incidents along the border. The market value of the seized items is Rs.5,75,000/-. Smugglers were trying to smuggle these fish eggs from India to Bangladesh.

In the first incident, troops of border Outpost Boltala, 118 Battalion observed some smugglers carrying plastic sacks on their shoulders, speeding towards the border late in the night. After this the jawans chased them and challenged to stop them, then the smugglers got scared seeing the jawans coming near and fled from the spot leaving the goods there. After this, the jawans searched the area and 21 plastic bags filled with fish eggs were recovered from there.

Apart from this, in other incidents, jawans of Border Outpost Ghojadanga, 153 Battalion and Border Outpost C S Khali, 118 Battalion recovered a total of 20 plastic bags containing fish eggs from their area of ​​responsibility.

The seized items have been handed over to the concerned agencies for further legal action.

Spokesperson, BSF, South Bengal Frontier expressed satisfaction over the success of the troops and stated that all possible routes of smuggling have been kept under strict vigil to prevent smugglers from carrying out their nefarious designs. He also stated that BSF jawans will not allow smuggling or any other kind of crime on the border under any circumstances.
