The Border Security Force (BSF) foiled an attempt to smuggle fish eggs worth Rs 2.85 lakh across the Indo-Bangladesh border in the North 24 Parganas district. On April 24, 2023, at 0145 hours, alert jawans of the Ranghat border post of the 68 Battalion, South Bengal Frontier, seized 19 plastic bags of fish eggs within their area of responsibility.

The jawan on duty observed 10-12 smugglers moving towards the border with plastic bags and informed his fellow jawan via radio set. The jawans chased the smugglers, causing them to panic and abandon the bags before fleeing back to the Indian village taking advantage of thick bushes. During a subsequent search, the jawans recovered the bags.

The seized articles were handed over to the Baghdah Police Station for further legal action.

The Commanding Officer of the 68 Battalion stated that BSF troops always carry out their duties on the international border promptly and that no smuggling activity can escape their attention. He added that despite smugglers’ attempts to use different methods, the BSF jawans consistently thwart their efforts.
