On April 26, 2023, BSF jawans under the South Bengal Frontier prevented a smuggling attempt and seized 1.255 kg of silver jewelry valued at Rs.77,404/- on the international border. The smuggler, identified as Ronnie Ghazi from District North 24 Parganas, was attempting to smuggle the ornaments from India to Bangladesh.
Acting on concrete information, the troops of Border Out Post Hakimpur, 112 Battalion, stopped a suspected scooty rider from village Hakimpur for a search. During the search, the jawans discovered the silver jewelry hidden inside the headlight of the scooty. The smuggler attempted to flee, but was immediately apprehended by the jawans.
During interrogation, the smuggler confessed to being involved in such smuggling activities for a long time. He had received the silver ornaments from Ibrahim of village Swaroopdha and was supposed to return them to the same person after crossing the border. He was to get Rs.500 for this work.
The apprehended smuggler and the seized silver ornaments were handed over to the Custom Office Tentulia for further legal action.
Public Relations Officer of South Bengal Frontier stated that smugglers adopt different tactics to carry out smuggling activities. BSF personnel are guarding the borders 24×7 hrs and are committed to stop all sorts of smuggling activities across the border. Due to which people involved in crimes like smuggling are being caught continuously.
