(District- North 24 Parganas)
On April 26, 2023, vigilant Border Outpost Sahebkhali jawans of the 118 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier seized 52 plastic bags filled with fish eggs with a market value of Rs. 5,20,000/- in their area of responsibility on the Indo-Bangladesh border. The smugglers had concealed the bags in jute bags while attempting to smuggle them from India to Bangladesh.
During their duty, the jawans observed 15-20 smugglers heading towards the Kalindi river. The smugglers were gradually moving towards the border while carrying jute bags. The troops promptly alerted their colleagues and took cover of the bushes to approach the smugglers. However, the smugglers fled the scene and left behind the sacks of fish eggs as soon as they realized that the troops were closing in on them. Following the incident, the jawans searched the area and found 52 plastic bags filled with fish eggs in 13 jute bags.
The seized items were then handed over to the Police Station in Baghdah for further legal action.
The Commanding Officer of the 118 Battalion expressed confidence in the BSF’s ability to perform its duty on the international border with promptness. He also stated that smugglers use various new methods to smuggle goods, but the BSF jawans consistently thwart their efforts.
