(District- North 24 Parganas)

On May 2nd, 2023, at approximately 9:30 PM, the troops of Border Out Post Hakimpur, 112 Battalion, under the South Bengal Frontier, apprehended a smuggler with 10 gold biscuits weighing 1.190 kg. The estimated value of the seized gold biscuits is Rs 74,56,540/-. The smuggler was attempting to bring them from Bangladesh to India.

The jawans of border outpost Hakimpur received information that gold smuggling could take place in their area. In response, they laid an ambush in the area. Subsequently, the jawans observed a suspicious person riding a bicycle from village Hakimpur towards village Swaroopdah via the check post. The jawans immediately stopped the cyclist and searched him, during which they found 10 gold biscuits under the seat of the cycle. The jawans promptly apprehended the smuggler and brought him to the post for further questioning. The apprehended smuggler was identified as Almamun Sardar from District North 24 Parganas.

During interrogation, the smuggler revealed that Samuel Biswas, a resident of Bithari village near Hakimpur ball field, had handed over the gold biscuits to him along with the bicycle. After crossing the border, the smuggler was supposed to hand them over to Samuel Biswas again, and he was to receive Rs 700 for this task. However, BSF foiled his efforts and caught him at the check post.

The apprehended smuggler and the seized goods were handed over to the Custom Office, Tantulia, for further legal action. A spokesperson for the South Bengal Frontier, BSF, commended the vigilance and understanding of the BSF jawans and expressed satisfaction with their success in intercepting the smugglers and seizing the gold.
