Indian Coast Guard District Headquarters No.8, Haldia in coordination with MoEFCC, State and District administration of West Bengal organised beach cleanship at Digha on 21 May 23. All Plastic bottles, bags and other wastes has been collected along the 2.5 kms distance from old Digha beach to new Digha beach as part of Indian Presidency for G20 summit, Jan Bhagidari & Swach Bharat Abnhiyan.
India holds the presidency of G20 for the year 2023. G20 is a premier form for International economics co-operation. Its plays an important role in shaping and strengthening global architecture and governance on all major international economic issues.
Indian Coast Guard, has been regularly coordinating and conducting coastal cleanup activities contributing towards” Swach Bharat Abhiyan” within an aim to educate and motivate the local populace for maintaining the sea shores neat and cleans and to avoid further pollution of marine environment by man-made activities.
During the campaign CGDHQ-8, Haldia conveyed the message of Hon’ble Prime Minister, Swachhta and Jan Bhagidari and also congratulated all the participants for their contribution towards the cause and urged them to inculcate swachhta as a habit to keep our environment clean for generations to come.

The beach cleanship event at Digha was a great success wherein participants (approx. 250), comprising of Indian Coast Guard, Minister of Prison Mr Akhil Giri, Govt of West Bengal, Special Secretary of Environment Department, West Bengal Shri Sasim Kumar Barai, District Magistrate Purba Medinipur Shri Purnendu Kumar Maji, MIC, Department of Correctional Administration, Govt of West Bengal, Pollution Control Board and local populace attended the beach cleanship event.
