BSF troops seized 18 kg of Ganja and 195 bottles of Phensedyl from their area of responsibility on Indo-Bangladesh border under South Bengal Frontier, which smugglers were trying to cross from India to Bangladesh. The estimated value of the seized Phensedyl bottles is Rs.42,775/-.
In the first incident, on May 29, 2023, the jawans of Border Outpost Sikra, 82 Battalion saw 02 smugglers moving towards the International Border. When the jawans started advancing towards the smugglers, the smugglers started running back towards the Indian village. The troops chased both the smugglers and nabbed them. The apprehended smugglers have been identified as Irfan Mandal and Jadidul Mandal, village Hathkhola, district Nadia. The jawans seized 50 bottles of Phensedyl from the possession of the smugglers.
During interrogation, the smugglers revealed that these Phensedyl bottles were handed over to them by Minajul Biswas, a resident of Hathkhola. After this, these bottles were to be thrown over the border fence but BSF had already caught them. Each was to get 600 rupees for this work.
Apart from this, on the same day, in other incidents, troops of Border Outposts Misimpur, 68 Battalion and Baliashisha, 86 Battalion seized 145 bottles of Phensedyl and 18 kg of Ganja from their area of responsibility.
The seized goods were handed over to the concerned agencies for further legal action.
A spokesperson of BSF, South Bengal Frontier expressed happiness over the achievement of the BSF jawans, and stated that the Border Security Force always maintains vigilance to prevent smuggling on the border. He also stated that BSF has an efficient team to provide information related to smuggling, which keeps a close watch on the criminal activities happening in the border area.
