The BSF, responsible for safeguarding the India-Bangladesh border, not only ensures border security but also conducts periodic awareness programs to combat crimes and wrongdoings in the border region.
In line with this commitment, on May 29, 2023, the Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of the 70 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier, in collaboration with the Shakti Vahini NGO, organized an awareness program from 09:30 to 11:00 hours at Pragati Shiksha Aangan, Sukhnagar, Malda. The program aimed to prevent human trafficking and other related crimes.
During the awareness program, the BSF’s Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) enlightened the villagers on various subjects, including human trafficking, child marriage, child sexual abuse, child labor, gender discrimination, and the significance of education. A total of 125 girls, villagers, and school staff actively participated in the program.
The villagers expressed gratitude to the BSF for organizing this initiative and urged the jawans to continue conducting such awareness programs in the future.
The Commanding Officer of the 70 Battalion emphasized that such programs are conducted periodically to foster better relations between the border population and the BSF. He further highlighted the importance of providing quality education to children in order to shape them into responsible citizens.
