On 04th Jun 2023 vigilant troops of ICP Petrapole, 145 Battalion, under South Bengal Frontier, apprehended 06 Bangladeshi passengers and one Indian passenger with cosmetics consignments, which they were trying to smuggle from India to Bangladesh. The estimated value of seized goods is Rs.14,16,738/-.

Acting on credible information received, troops of ICP Petrapole on duty at Passenger Terminal, Petrapole observed 06 suspicious Bangladeshi passengers and one Indian passenger traveling from India to Bangladesh with heavy luggage. The jawans on duty stopped the passengers and questioned them, they could not give any satisfactory answer nor could they show the legal documents of the cosmetic items. Thereafter, BSF troops arrested the passengers. They were identified as (i) Md. Aynul Haque (63), District Rajshahi, Bangladesh (ii) Md. Naseem (23), (iii) Rozina Begum (44), (iv) Samsa Khatoon (41), (v) Abu Miyan (23), District Jashore, Bangladesh, (vi) Md. Rubel Hossain (31), District Kushtiya Bangladesh and (vii) Pooja (40), District Nadia, West Bengal.

During preliminary interrogation, the passengers disclosed that they work for Sohag, a resident of Benapole, Bangladesh. They further revealed that they had bought these items from Bada Bazar, Kolkata. The goods were to be handed over to Sohag after crossing the ICP. They also revealed that they get Rs 2,000 for a trip.

The apprehended passengers were handed over to Petrapole Custom Office along with the seized baggage.

Public Relations Officer, BSF, South Bengal Frontier stated that BSF troops are guarding the borders 24×7 hours and are committed to stop all kinds of smuggling activities along the border, due to which people involved in crimes like smuggling are being caught continuously.
