On June 17th, 2023, troops from the 153 Battalion, under South Bengal Frontier, successfully foiled smuggling attempts and apprehended two smugglers with a significant quantity of narcotics in a joint operation with NCB.
Acting on received intelligence, the vigilant jawans on duty swiftly acted upon information regarding the presence of a large quantity of narcotics in the residence of Fedu Mondal in the village of Boksinagar, PS Habibpur, Malda, with intentions of smuggling. In coordination with the officers from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), a raid was immediately conducted on the aforementioned house. During the thorough search, the following items were discovered:
1. 2.6 kilograms of opium
2. 400 grams of suspected heroin
3. 4.3 kilograms of sodium carbonate
4. 1 bottle of acetyl chloride
The smugglers, identified as Fedu Mondal and Chandi Mondal, were promptly arrested after an intensive search operation conducted.
The apprehended smugglers and the seized items were handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau’s Kolkata office for further investigation and legal action.
The Commanding Officer of the 159 Battalion highlighted that the Border Security Force (BSF) remains committed to taking stringent measures to prevent smuggling activities along the Indo-Bangladesh Border. These efforts have significantly impeded the operations of individuals involved in smuggling, resulting in their apprehension and subsequent lawful punishment.
