The Indian Army said unprovoked firing by Armed Rioters towards Village Haraothel in Kangpokpi district comenced on Thursday morning at 05: 30 hours.Security forces responded to the firing in a “calibrated manner”, The Indian Army’s Spears Corps said in a statement.
The Army troops deployed in the area immediately mobilised to prevent escalation of situation. While enroute to the site, Army columns drew effective fire from armed rioters.
“The Army troops responded in a calibrated manner to prevent any collateral damage. Swift action by troops resulted in cessation of firing. Additional columns moved to the area to control the overall situation.
While the forces managed to get the firing to stop, “unconfirmed reports indicate some casualties,” the Army statement further said.
According to Army large crowds were also reported to have built up in the area and that the situation was being closely monitored.
