Deputy Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra along with MLA Tezpur Prithiraj Rava on July 11 flagged off an awareness rally on “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao – Walk Towards Dignity of daughters” from the DC office premises.
ADC Kavita Kakoti Konwar, Asst Commissioner and i/c DSWO Barsha Talukdar and other officials of W&CD department and DHEW were present on the occasion.
It may be noted that the Ministry of Women & Child Development has launched Beti Bachao Beti Padhao in Sonitpur district in the current financial year. In this regard, District Administration and Department of Women & Child Development with technical support from District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Sonitpur launched a mobile van for widespread publicity of the campaign along with a rally by Anganwadi Workers focusing on achieving the objectives of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign.
The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme was launched on January 22, 2015 to address the issue of decline in Child Sex Ratio (CSR) in the country along with related issues of empowerment of girls and women. The awareness programme is focused on creating behavioural and social change in the way the girl child is perceived by informing, influencing, motivating, engaging and empowering all stakeholders.
The aim of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme is to achieve improvement in the Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB), improvement in the percentage of institutional deliveries, increase in first trimester Anti-Natal Care (ANC) registration, increase in enrolment at secondary education level and skilling of girls/ women per year, check dropout rate among girls at secondary and higher secondary levels and raising awareness about safe Menstrual Hygiene Management.
