Tree plantation drive, also known as afforestation initiative. The main objective of the tree plantation drive being carried out by the BSF is to increase the number of forests in the border area, improve biodiversity, combat deforestation, enhance air and water quality.
In this connection, on July 14, 2023, officers and jawans of BSF HQrs, Sector Krishnanagar under South Bengal Frontier planted fruit and shade trees of different species in the Headquarters premises under Plantation Drive-2023.
The Deputy Inspector General, BSF, Sector Headquarters, Krishnanagar stated that tree plantation drive has a significant positive impact on the environment and society. The official further explained that trees enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change by sequestering carbon dioxide, improve air and water quality, provide habitat for wildlife and provide several socio-economic benefits to local communities. The officer further added that the BSF has strengthened its resolve to safeguard the country’s borders as well as protect nature.
