ASSAM RIFLES SUCCESSFULLY THWARTS SMUGGLING OF ARECA NUTS

Assam Rifles successfully intercepted a cross-border smuggling operation involving Areca Nuts in Kamjong District, Manipur, on September 9, 2023.

Acting on credible intelligence regarding the movement of contraband goods along the Indo-Myanmar border, an Assam Rifles team was swiftly deployed to monitor the suspected area. Upon conducting a thorough search, the team discovered 115 bags containing suspected Areca Nuts with an estimated value of approximately Rs 1.140 crore (based on international market rates). These bags were being unlawfully smuggled in two Shaktiman trucks in the vicinity of the Phaikoh village (near BP-102) across the international border into India.

The entire haul, comprising 115 bags of Areca Nuts valued at Rs 1.140 crore, along with the apprehendees & two vehicles have been handed over to the Kamjong Forest Department for further legal proceedings.
