Mizoram : Raj Bhavan hosts Grand Gandhi Jayanti Exhibition to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti 2023

Raj Bhavan Mizoram in collaboration with the Department of Commerce & Industries, under the patronage of Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, organized the 3 days Grand Gandhi Jayanti Exhibition from 2nd to 4th October 2023 at Circular Lawn, Raj Bhavan.  In the presence of Dr R.Lalthangliana, Minister, Commerce & Industries, the Governor inaugurated the first-ever exhibition hosted by Raj Bhavan Mizoram, today.

In his inaugural address, Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati paid rich tribute to the Father of the Nation on his birth anniversary. Governor cited the relevancy of organizing the exhibition to showcase the products of Handloom, Khaadi and other cottage products along the lines of the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi for the development of cottage industries and promotion of self-reliance.

The governor thanked the Ministry of Textile, Government of India for extending the financial assistance through its Handloom Development wing for organizing this event. On this historic event, the Governor stressed the need for support and encouragement of the entrepreneurs of the  Handloom industries, micro, mini and medium business units in a small state like Mizoram where setting up large enterprises might not be a viable venture.

The governor also made an appeal to the public to come to the exhibition and show support to our local business units by buying at least one item from the stalls.

Dr R. Lalthangliana, Minister, Commerce & Industries thanked the Governor for his leading role and for providing the venue for this promotional exhibition for the state’s entrepreneur. He also thanked the Ministry of Textile for providing a substantial amount of financial assistance in a short period of time.

He took this opportunity to reiterate once again, the importance of improvement in the finished products. He was happy to share that in a short span of time, the handloom products of Mizoram are now considerably improved in quality. However, he suggested to the weavers that they still have room to improve their finished products to fetch a higher amount from the same products they might be selling at a lower price today.

During the 3 days of the Exhibition at Circular Lawn, Raj Bhavan there will be 62 stalls where the products of handloom & Handicrafts, Food products of the Food Processing units, etc., will be sold. Help Desks and Counters will be set up for Prime Minister Viswakarma   Yojana, Mudra Loans, other bank loans, etc. Food Courts and other refreshments stalls will also be catering to the visitors.

The inaugural Program commenced with a keynote address by Pi Florence Zotluangpuii, Director, Commerce & Industries. Chief Secretary Dr Renu Sharma, high-level officials, dignitaries, artisans and other invitees attended the inaugural function.
