The promo run for the second edition of Run For The Rhino – Ultra Run at Kaziranga was held in Guwahati on Sunday.
Over 200 participants took part in the 5-KM promo run which started from Khanapara Walking Zone at 6 AM. Organised by Anvayins with support from Kaziranga National Park Authority,
The Run For The Rhino – Ultra Run at Kaizanga will be held at Kaziranga on December 3 next. Several internationally renowned ultra runners and marathon runners from Assam, top police officers, senior citizens, women and children participated in the 5-KM race today.
Anvayins is organizing a this 52 KM Ultra Run in Assam to raise awareness about the protection of the one-horned rhino, the pride of Assam, and to promote the success of Kaziranga in this regard. After the successful first edition, the second edition is expected to be held on December 3 with participation of more than 500 runners from across the country.
After today’s 5-KM Promo Run, 50 runners were awarded T-Shirts by lottery. Besides, interested runners also got the opportunity to register for the main race at a discounted price. The participants will get the unique opportunity to run through the villages, hills and tea gardens in the vicinity of Kaziranga and enjoy the scenic beauty. Like in the previous year, the proceeds of the competition will be donated to the Kaziranga Rhino Conservation Fund.
Anupam Deka, one of the organizers informed that the tournament will be held in the 52, 26 and 10 KM categories with a total prize money of Rs 4 lakh. The participants in the 5 KM race will receive medals and certificates of participation.
Run For The Rhino – Ultra Run at Kaziranga uses international standard timing solutions to enable those who complete the competition on time to participate in all the top marathons, ultra runs or trail runs in the country. Abhijit Gogoi, another organizer told reporters that apart from Kaziranga National Park authorities, the local people of Kaziranga have been cooperating in the competition. The organizers will hold a press conference on November 8 at the Conference Hall of the Forest Department at Kohora in Kaziranga to brief all aspects of the competition.
