RISING SUN WATER FESTIVAL KICKED OFF TODAY AT GUWAHATI

The vibrant city of Guwahati was a buzz with excitement as Army’s Eastern Command kicked off the three day Rising Sun Water Festival – Revisiting Saraighat, an event that has brought together the beauty of the rich cultural heritage of Assam but also pays homage to the historic Saraighat Battle and fosters a deep appreciation for water sports.

Assam has historic lineage for its cultural diversity and scenic beauty and this water sports festival celebrates these very attributes. It is a momentous occasion that not only brings the community together but also where state government bodies and the armed forces join hands to create an unforgettable experience for all.

The water sports festival is slowly growing to become a celebrated tradition, attracting water sports enthusiasts, local communities and sports aficionados from far and wide. This edition of water sports festival special as we lay tribute to the heroic Saraighat Battle, a pivotal historical moment in 1671 when the valiant Ahom forces led by Lachit Borphukan triumphed over the Mughals on the Brahmaputra. It is a fitting tribute to the resilience and valor of Assam’s past.

 

Over the course of three days, the water sports festival will showcase the rich cultural tapestry of Assam through traditional music, dance and art. Spectators can immerse themselves in the colourful and diverse heritage of the region. This event is not just about sports, it’s about celebrating the spirit of competition, inclusivity and the pursuit of excellence while motivating our youth to embrace water sports. This is a unique opportunity for young athletes to showcase their talent and for the youth to embrace water sports as a career and active way of life.

Cultural Affairs Minister of Government of Assam, Bimal Bora said,” As we embark on this incredible journey, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Army’s Eastern Command, whose dedicated service and unwavering commitment have transformed a virgin land into a vibrant festive ground. This collaboration between the Army and the State Government showcases the power of unity and what can be achieved when we work together for the betterment of our community.”

Spectacular Opening Ceremony was graced by the presence of Queen Oja, G P Singh IPS, DGP Assam Police, Lieutenant General Manish Erry, General Office Commanding, Gajraj Corps, Dr. Kalyan Chakraborty, PS,CAD, GOC Red Horns Division and many senior civil and military dignitaries. Large number of spectators including Students and NCC Cadets witnessed the thrilling Helicopters Fly past and cultural and sporting extravaganza.
