In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, Assam Rifles, recovered 43 bags of illegal Areca nuts worth Rupees 21.07 Lakh in general area Tlangsam, Champhai on 30 November 2023.
The operation was carried out by a team of Assam Rifles in Champhai, based on specific information. During the operation 43 bags of illegal Areca nuts were recovered which were hidden in jungle in General Area Tlangsam. The entire consignment of 43 bags of illegal Areca nuts worth Rupees 21,07,000/- (Rupees Twenty One Lakh Seven Thousand only) has been handed over to Customs Preventive Force, Champhai for further legal proceeding.
Ongoing smuggling of contraband items is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram and India. Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’ have continued their efforts against illegal smuggling and has also doubled its efforts to nab the kingpins of the smuggling of contraband items in Mizoram.
