On December 11, 2023, Troops of Border Outpost Hakimpur, 112 Battalion, BSF under South Bengal Frontier orchestrated a ‘Run for Fun’ initiative, catering specifically to the school children of the Bithari-Hakimpur Gram Panchayat area under the PS Swarupnagar block. This venture is part of a broader initiative by the BSF’s senior leadership to engage with students in bordering regions, fostering their mental and physical well-being to prepare them as future soldiers.
The event also included the felicitation of ‘Veer Mukti Yodhas,’ the ground heroes who played a pivotal role in the Liberation War of Bangladesh as ‘Mukti Vahini.’ Eminent personalities graced the occasion, offering insights for the benefit of the local students. The event featured screenings of movies highlighting the BSF’s role in the liberation war and the sacrifices of the local population, coupled with a display of high-caliber area weapons.
Approximately 200 students actively participated in the run, inaugurated by ‘Mukti Yodhas’ across different age groups. The run, categorized into three groups (below 12 years, below 16 years, and 20 years), commenced at Swarupdah market and concluded at Hakimpur High School. Notably, the event saw attendance from members and ex-members of Hakimpur Gram Panchayat, along with representatives from various political parties and independent members and peoples of various border villages.
A.K. Arya, DIG, Public Relations Officer, South Bengal Frontier said that the BSF’s commitment to intending to provide training to eligible youth for recruitment into the Central Armed Police Forces. With the active involvement of local leaders and respected citizens, selected candidates will undergo physical training at Hakimpur ground, while written training will be conducted at Hakimpur High School. This initiative, undertaken as a responsible measure, aims to pave the way for a better future for the young students in the area.
