Lieutenant General RC Tiwari has been appointed as the new Eastern Army Commander

General Tiwari will be succeeding incumbent Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita who is superannuating on December 31 .

Lieutenant General R C Tiwari is presently commanding the Uttar Bharat Area and has also commanded the 3 Corps.

He was commissioned into the Kumaon Regiment of the Indian Army in 1987 .

“Lieutenant General Tiwari is currently commanding the Uttar Bharat Area and has also commanded the 3 Corps. The General is an Infantry Officer and was commissioned in the Kumaon Regiment of the Indian Army in 1987,” said PRO (Defence) Kohima Lieutenant Colonel Sumit K Sharma in a release.

“He commanded an infantry battalion in Counter-Insurgency operations, mountain Brigade at high altitude and Black Cat Division as General Officer Commanding,” added the statement.

The officer is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, the Defence Services Staff College, College of Defence Management and the National Defence College. He has held several prestigious command and staff assignments in conventional as well as counter-insurgency operations in India and abroad.

Prior to taking over this appointment, Lieutenant General RC Tiwari was chief of staff at the headquarters of the south-western command in Jaipur.
