The Brahmastra Sappers, under the aegis of Brahmastra corps have successfully accomplished the arduous task of a 740km long journey from Panagarh to Hilli and back with the cycling expedition being flagged in at Panagarh Military Station.
The daring team of 10 cyclists led by Capt Preet Singh embarked on the challenging expedition covering a remarkable 740 km over seven days. The expedition, flagged off by GOC, Brahmastra Corps on 16 Dec 2023, was not just a test of physical endurance but a testament to the spirit of self-sustainability and determination.
Undertaking the arduous task of cycling through landscapes and terrain of West Bengal, the team embraced self-sufficiency, carrying their essentials and even cooking their own meals throughout the expedition. This feat symbolised resilience and the ability to overcome challenges faced during the journey.
The cyclists reached Hilli on 19 December , where they paid homage to the nation’s heroes and martyrs of 1971 war and the Battle of Hilli, honoring their sacrifices for the country. This momentous occasion was marked by a solemn ceremony, reinforcing the expedition’s underlying theme of patriotism and respect for those who defend the nation.
Not merely confined to the physical challenges, the members of the Expedition took this opportunity to interact with students of schools and NCC cadets as well as locals enroute. Sharing tales of valour with the students of Bolpur Siksha Niketan Ashram Vidyalaya and cadets of 11 NCC Battalion at Malda, they motivated the young minds, enlightening them about the sacrifices made during times of war and inspiring them to consider a future in the armed forces.
The primary aim of this cycling expedition was to boost the energy and spirit of the youth, fostering a sense of responsibility towards nation-building as well as connect with the locals. By interacting with students, NCC cadets, youth and locals enroute, the Expedition Team aimed to instill a sense of pride and duty, encouraging the next generation to contribute to the progress and security of the nation.
The astonishing journey of this Expedition Team concluded on 22 Dec 23 with the triumphant Flagging In ceremony at Perfect Five Regt at Panagarh Military Station. The successful completion of this expedition serves as a beacon of determination and a reminder of the indomitable spirit that drives soldiers to achieve extraordinary feats for the Nation.
