Mega Cyclothon Team of National Cadet Corps reached Siliguri, West Bengal, India on December 28, 2023. National Cadet Corps (NCC), the largest uniformed youth organization of the World is celebrating 75 years of its raising this year. On this auspicious occasion and based on the vision of Prime Minister, a Mega Cyclothon event, a national level cycling expedition is being organised by Director General NCC. The event aims to showcase “Nari Shakti” or “Women Empowerment”.
The team of 15 cyclists comprising of 14 Girl Cadets from NCC UP Directorate led by Colonel Anjan Sengupta are cycling all the way from Guwahati to New Delhi.
The cyclists were flagged off by the Governor of Assam Gulab Chand Kataria from Raj Bhawan in Guwahati on 22nd December 2023. They will be crossing four Indian states namely Assam, West Bengal, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh before culminating at New Delhi. The team will be flagged-in on the 28th January 2024 during the PM Rally by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi himself. The cyclists shall be covering the distance of 2107 km in a span of 23 riding days at an average of almost 90 to 100 kms each day.
The All Girls Team have already completed more than 450 kms distance and reached Siliguri on 28 December 2023. The move through Bengal is being co-ordinated by Darjeeling and Sikkim Group. Enroute the cyclists interacted with villagers, school and college children and NCC cadets.
The cyclists have been selected after clearing a tough physical and psychological process. They have undergone two and half months of rigorous training so as to prepare themselves for this super human journey.
General Officer Commanding, 111 Sub Area flagged in the Mega Cyclothon team at Army Public School, Bengdubi on 28th December 2023. Genaral Officer Commanding interacted with entire team of Mega Cyclothon and emphasized role of “Nari Shakti “in the society.
