ASSAM RIFLES PAYS HOMAGE TO FALLEN HEROES IN COMMEMORATIVE WREATH LAYING CEREMONIES

Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) and HQ IGAR(S), conducted solemn wreath laying ceremonies to honor two brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.

Solemn Wreath Laying Ceremony for Rifleman Late Huidrom Bijendro Singh, SC (Posthumous): Assam Rifles organized a solemn wreath laying ceremony at Company Operating Base, Sendra, District-Bishnupur (Manipur) on 27 December 2023. The ceremony paid homage to Rifleman Late Huidrom Bijendro Singh, SC (Posthumous) of 7 Assam Rifles, who laid down his life during a counter-insurgency operation in Loktak Lake on 27 December 2005.

Rifleman (Late) Huidrom Bijendro Singh, SC (Posthumous) displayed exceptional bravery during an exchange of fire with insurgents at Loktak Lake. Without concern for his personal safety, he swiftly moved towards the firing insurgents, sustaining gunshot wounds and making the supreme sacrifice for the nation.

The Company Commander, during the wreath-laying ceremony, emphasized that gallant actions by soldiers have always been a motivating factor for the battalion to carry out relentless operations against anti-national elements. The event was attended by all ranks of the company, the family of the martyr, and included a moment of remembrance for Rifleman Late Huidrom Bijendro Singh, SC (Posthumous). The Company Commander interacted with the family over lunch, expressing gratitude for the soldier’s outstanding service to the nation.

Wreath Laying Ceremony for Rfn/GD (Late) Khem Bahadur Thapa: In another tribute, Assam Rifles organized a poignant wreath laying ceremony in memory of Rifleman/GD (Late) Khem Bahadur Thapa. The brave soldier sacrificed his life while battling insurgents at Babupara on 27 Dec 1997 in Jiribam district of Manipur. The ceremony, led by the Commandant of the unit, included a motivational speech to all ranks, narrating the heroic story of Rifleman/GD (Late) Khem Bahadur Thapa. A total of 04 Officers, 17 Junior Commissioned Officers, and 165 Other Ranks of the Battalion paid tribute by laying wreaths and according Guard of Honour.

These wreath laying ceremonies signify Assam Rifles’ unwavering commitment to remembering and honoring the sacrifices of its brave soldiers, serving as a source of inspiration for all ranks and reinforcing the organization’s dedication to the security and well-being of the nation.
