Assam Rifles foils cross border smuggling of contrabands in Kamjong District on 31st December 2023. During checking of vehicles at MVCP Phunge village, the check post spotted suspicious movement of one truck with two individuals at 0530 hrs loaded with some suspicious items.
On thorough search, Areca Nuts (Supari) were found being illegaly smuggled without valid documents from Namlee market to Ukhrul and further for black market selling in Kohima.
A total of 80 bags of Areca Nuts valued at Rs 55.22 Lac was recovered which were further handed over to Phungyar Police Station.The apprehended individuals, Mr MD Firoj Khan and Mr Sharuk Khan of Yairipok village, Imphal East, Manipur were handed over to SHO Phungyar Police for further investigation.
