In a bid to address growing concerns over border security in Tripura, Union Minister of State, Meenakshi Lekhi, visited the border area in Kailashahar today. The visit included crucial discussions with BSF jawans, shedding light on the myriad problems and challenges faced in the region. Tripura Cabinet Minister Tinku Roy was also present, underlining the gravity of the situation.

Of particular concern is the deteriorating condition of the 30-year-old barbed wire fence on the India-Bangladesh border and the erosion of river crossings, giving rise to issues such as cattle smuggling, illegal intrusion, and theft. Despite promises from the central government for swift action and the expedited completion of the barbed wire fence on the Bangladesh border, the reality on the ground paints a different picture.

The central government’s apparent lack of seriousness in addressing this matter is evident, leading to a surge in problems like illegal cow smuggling, trafficking, drug trade, and increased criminal activities along various borders of Tripura. The repercussions are felt acutely by the residents of border areas, who find themselves compelled to stay vigilant throughout the night due to heightened security risks.

Even though Home Minister Amit Shah personally campaigned in this border area during elections, the issues persist, with his office seemingly dormant on this critical matter of border security. The residents of the Kailashahar border area, like many others in Tripura, continue to grapple with the escalating challenges, highlighting the pressing need for urgent attention and effective measures to secure the nation’s borders.
