The 79-year-old two times World Champion Clive Lloyd was the chief guest at the 75th Foundation Day ceremony of the Satgachia High School, almost 100 kilometres from Kolkata.
When the Caribbean stalwart graced the occasion and motivated the young kids and villagers they were overwhelmed and delighted.It was a historical moment for the people of Gupti Para.
“I am privileged to be here.I can imagine the emotion and tradition of the village and school.Wonderful atmosphere here, had never been in a village in India earlier, it’s a first time for me here.School life is the best life of any human being.” West Indies World Cupper said in a media briefing there.
Explaining the importance of Education amongst the villagers Guyana Cricket Legend Lloyd said-
“Education is must for everyone. Education gives knowledge and confidence. The two key factors in any sphere of life.If you want to become footballer,cricketer or any sports person you need to have a basic knowledge of the game and the sense of sports. Education will surely help you to achieve your goal.
So please don’t waste your time,make a road map and choose your dream and never give it up.”
Talking about his favourite Team India cricketer, Lloyd picked Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer.
“I liked this fellow Gill, he looks a good cricketer, and (Shreyas) Iyer too,” he said.
“India have a lot of good cricketers at the moment, I must say and I think what I like about it is they have a much more balanced side,” he added.
Thousands of cricket lovers came to the village ground to witness this grand event.
