Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), solemnly organized a wreath-laying ceremony to honor the supreme sacrifice made by Rifleman Umesh Chandra of 37 Assam Rifles and Rifleman Y Raju of 33 Assam Rifles in the service of the nation.
Rifleman Umesh Chandra bravely laid down his life due to a bullet injury during a face-off with insurgents near Moreh town, Manipur, on January 16, 2004. Similarly, Rifleman Y Raju sacrificed his life in an exchange of fire with UG cadres during a search operation near Bishnupur, Manipur, on January 16, 2010.
Assam Rifles paid heartfelt homage to these bravehearts at the War Memorial, recognizing their supreme sacrifice for the cause of the nation, disregarding personal safety.
The ceremony commenced with the solemn act of wreath-laying, accompanied by a motivational speech delivered to all ranks, narrating the inspiring stories of the fallen heroes.
In a display of collective respect, 01 Officer, 15 Junior Commissioned Officers, and 63 Other Ranks of Assam Rifles paid tribute by laying wreaths and according a Guard of Honour, underscoring the unwavering commitment to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.
