Vigilant troops of BOP Tarali-1, 112 Battalion BSF, under the South Bengal Frontier thwarted a Gold smuggling attempt and apprehended a smuggler with 06 gold bars weighing 686 grams while being smuggled from Bangladesh to India. The estimated value of the seized gold biscuits is Rs 44,32,451/-.
As per the BSF Spokesperson, on 30 January, Troops of the Border outpost Tarali-I received a piece of specific information about the attempt to smuggle gold biscuits by a suspected person. After that troops became more vigilant and At about 0830 hrs troops stopped the suspected person named Tarikul Islam Gazi at Hakimpur checkpoint for frisking who was coming from Tarali village side (Bangladesh side) and heading towards Tentulia (India side) via Hakimpur Check Point by driving E-rickshaw. On a thorough search of E-Rikshaw troops found 06 gold biscuits wrapped with brown colour tape from E-Rikshaw. Immediately, troops apprehended the smuggler and seized the gold biscuits.
The smuggler was identified as Tarikul Islam Gazi (Age 35 yrs) S/O- Late Fajlu Gazi, Vill- Tarali(Majherpara), Dist-North 24 Parganas (W.B).
During interrogation, Tarikul Islam Gazi revealed that he is an Indian national and runs an E-rickshaw for his livelihood. On 30/01/24 at about 0330 hrs he received a packet wrapped with brown color tape from Ata of vill-Beldanga, Dist-Satkhira, Bangladesh at his house near Sonai River (IB). After that, he concealed the packet in E-Rikshaw and moved towards the Hakimpur checkpoint by riding on the E-Rikshaw. After crossing the Checkpoint, he further would have handed over the same packet containing 06 Gold biscuits to an unknown person at Tentulia and for this work, he would have gotten Rs 450/- from Ata but en route, BSF duty personnel spoiled his efforts, and caught him with the gold.
The apprehended person and seized items have been handed over to the customs office, Tentulia.
On this achievement of the jawans, the Public Relations Officer of South Bengal Frontier, A.K. Arya, DIG expressed happiness. He further said that notorious smugglers trap poor and innocent people by luring them with small amounts of money. Notorious trafficking gangs are not directly involved in crimes like smuggling, so they target poor people. He has appealed to the people living on the border that if they get any information related to gold smuggling, they can give this information to BSF’s Seema Sathi helpline number 14419. Apart from this, South Bengal Frontier has also issued another number 9903472227. WhatsApp messages or voice messages related to gold smuggling can also be sent. An appropriate reward amount will be given to the person giving concrete information and his identity will be kept secret.

(ii) BSF has nothing to do with conduct of NRC.
